    11 Days Cape Town, Garden Route and Wildlife – Self drive

    Overview

    South Africa is one place where one can enjoy a self-drive tours especially the Cape province and the Garden Route as the roads are of a good standard and well signposted. It is a safe and affordable way to experience the country and its beauty. This classic 11 days tour along the Southern coastline of South Africa offers many highlights including city life in Cape Town, wine tasting at the Winelands, the nature and scenery of Knysna and an unforgettable safari experience.

    Day 1
    Arrival at Cape Town

    Arrive at the airport and transfer to your hotel 

    Rest of the day at leisure. 

    Evening – enjoy the sunset cruise. 

    Sunset cruise is a unique experience not to be missed with in Cape Town. The Western Cape offers one of the best sunset view over the ocean and can be enjoyed to the very last second before the sun slips below the horizon. 

    Overnight will be at Cape Town

    Day 2
    Cape Town – Historical tour of Cape Town and Table Mountain

    After breakfast proceed for the Half day tour of Cape town visiting –

    • Go atop the Table Mountain for unforgettable sweeping views (weather permitting). 
    • Later come back to the city and pass through the Malay Quarter. 
    • Visit to Tow Ocean Aquarium
    • Drive through the Houses of Parliament, Castle of Good Hope and the Company Gardens.
    • Also visit the Sea Point and Camp’s Bay for scenic views.  
    • Enjoy a cruise to Seal Island, to view seals and sea birds at Robben Island (weather permitting). 
    • Lastly if time permits, visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

    Evening Optional activities – enjoy the Cape Wheel followed by the Helicopter ride to enjoy the sunset. Explore Cape Town from the skies on-board one of the scenic helicopter flights. Enjoy the breath taking views of Clifton Beach, Camps Bay and Table  Mountain. This Cape Town Helicopter experience will be sure to get you excited about exploring more of the beautiful city. 

    Overnight will be at Cape Town.

    Day 3
    Cape Town – Excursion to Cape Peninsula

    Breakfast at the hotel. Depart at 8 am for the excursion to Cape Peninsula visiting-

    • Explore the beauty of the Cape Peninsula while enjoying your drive to cape of good hope along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, passing Hout Bay. 
    • Continue further to visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.  
    • The new lighthouse built is amongst the most powerful in the world. It beams an electric light of 19 million candle power across the ocean.  
    • Ascend to the top of the cape point by The Flying Dutchman funicular.
    • Visit boulders beach and enjoy the penguin colony. 
    • Then drive through the historic town and one the naval base of Simon’s Town.

    Overnight will be at Cape Town.

    Day 4
    Cape Town – Wineland tour

    Breakfast at the hotel. Our driver will meet you at the hotel and  we start with your full day Cape Winelands Tour. 

    – Get swept away by the overwhelming beauty of rolling vineyards and perfect blue sky. 

    – Start off with a visit to Paarl and the spectacular Paarl Valley. 

    – During your tour you will also enjoy wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the local wine estates. 

    – The tour will then continue to the north-west and we will visit the beautiful village of Franschhoek and then Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa which is known as the historic heart of the country’s wine region. 

    – The final wine-tasting will take place here at one of the well-known estates.  

    Return to Cape Town and enjoy the late afternoon at leisure.

    Day 5
    Cape Town – Hermanus

    Breakfast at the hotel.

    Later your driver will pick you up from the hotel for your journey to Hermanus. 

    Visit the coastal town of Hermanus which has gained recognition as one the world’s best Whale watching destinations. 

    Enjoy Whale watching cruise. 

    Between June and November each year, Southern Right whales, along with less common Bryde’s and Humpback whales, grace the Cape coast with their presence, coming to breed and nurse their young in sheltered bays. The popular holiday destination of Hermanus has long been famous for its shore-based whale watching but in recent years, the scope has widened to include boat-based viewing at several spots around Walker Bay. Visitors can now take boat trips from Hermanus, as well as Gansbaai and Kleinbaai.

    Overnight will be at Hermanus.

    Day 6
    Hermanus – Knysna

    Breakfast will be at hotel. 

    Proceed to Knysna via the Garden route. The town is built on the banks of the Knysna Lagoon, which is a National Lake Area that falls under the protection of South African National Parks. This lagoon is home to more than 200 species of fish – including the rare Knysna seahorse – and is one of the popular destinations for water sports and nature enthusiasts. 

    Upon arrival at the hotel, check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

    Today evening, embark on the John Benn cruise which is a double-decker floating restaurant offering daily Lagoon cruises. 

    Overnight will be at Kynsna.

    Day 7
    Knysna – Oudtshoorn Excursion

    Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Today you have a full day adventure planned at Oudtshoorn. 

    The day at Oudtshoorn which known as the ostrich capital of the world would be full of fun and knowledge. Visiting the Ostrich farm will be the main highlights of the day.

    Your driver-guide will collect you at your hotel for a Private Full Day Oudtshoorn Tour.

    Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. Nowhere else are ostriches found in such great number and nowhere else do they produce feathers of such fine quality – but the world’s biggest bird is just one attraction in an area of enormous contrasts.

    Also visit the Cango Caves, internationally renowned as one of the world’s great natural wonders.  During the guided tour you will see how fascinating these limestone formations are. Continue on to the Cango Wildlife Ranch followed by the Ostrich Ranch where you will come face to face with the biggest bird in the world.

    Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

    Evening at leisure to explore the lagoon.

    Overnight will be at Knysna.

    Day 8
    Knysna – Plettenberg Bay Excursion

    Breakfast at the hotel. 

    Today we proceed for a day excursion to Plettenberg Bay with its long golden beaches, as well as and the dramatic beauty of the Tsitsikamma Forest and Coastal Park. 

    Plettenberg Bay and its surroundings have some of the most attractive beaches and exquisite scenery of the Garden Route with an unparalleled range of activities. The most famous beach known as the Central Beach, offers long stretches of white sand beaches and warm waters that’s just perfect for a swim. The calme water on Central Beach making it ideal for families. 

    The day is free for your to explore and relax at the beach. 

    Evening return back to Knysna and rest of the evening at leisure.

    Day 9

    Knysna – Port Elizabeth – Amakhala Game Reserve

    By Road in 5 hours

    Today we will drive to Port Elizabeth enroute passing by the Tsitsikamma National Park. The rocky coastline boasts the spectacular views of the sea and the landscape around it. 

    Continue on to Port Elizabeth. Upon arrival at Port Elizabeth you will be met and transferred to your game lodge located within the Amakhala Game Reserve (about 1 hour by road).

    Lunch is at the lodge and later proceed for the afternoon game drive. Overnight at the Lodge.

    Day 10

    Amakhala Game Reserve

    Enjoy your day at the reserve with two game drives today. It’s an early start for your morning game drive to enjoy some animal spotting and later return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch. After lunch, depart for your afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional African sunset before returning for dinner.

    Day 11

    Amakhala Game Reserve – Port Elizabeth – Departure

    Go on a morning game drive or have time at leisure before breakfast. 

    Later we start our journey back to Port Elizabeth for your onwards flight back home or to the next destination.
