The Magnificent Lake Naivasha
A visit to Lake Naivasha is a must for any African safari experience. You can spot some 500 species of birds found in the area along with bloats of Hippos lazing around in the lake. For the more active safari-goer, a walk in the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park or bike tour of the nearby areas is definitely an off the track experience.
One can also visit the private nature reserve of Crescent Island, where on a walking safari you will be able to spot wildebeest, zebras and giraffes. While a classic African safari is spent mostly in a 4X4 Vehicle, Lake Naivasha and its surrounding area invites you to stretch your legs and get active with walking safaris and trekking experience.
Lake Naivasha has one of the freshwater lakes in the East African Great Rift Valley which can be explored by boat. Grab your binoculars and cameras in search of African fish eagles, pelicans and cormorants. It’s an amazing experience to spot an African Fish eagle in action. Bloats of Hippos can also be seen lazing around along the riverbank or in the water.
There is a small private nature reserve known as Crescent Island which is definitely worth a visit. Here you get an opportunity to enjoy a walking safari and get up close and admire giraffes, impalas, wildebeest and zebras. A unique experience indeed and If you are lucky you might be able to spot jackals too.
Those who like to trek can explore Hell’s Gate National Park by foot or on a mountain bike. Passing through deep ravines to reach the top of the huge cliff gives you an amazing view of the Rift valley and its beautiful landscape.
Lake Naivasha is approximately 2 hours drive from Nairobi and can be included in any Kenya safari experience. From Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru is just an hour drive so keeping Naivasha as base one can experience Lake Nakuru as well.
Come and experience this during one of our Africa safari adventures!
