Overview
The Colonial Sri Lanka 10 Day tour covers the Colonial past of Sri Lanka. You start and end your journey in Colombo. You travel to the hill capital Kandy, futher to tea-growing hills of Nuwara Eliya that has superb views of some amazing tea estates and valleys and Galle Dutch fort on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. The tour also takes you to Yala National Park for your to experience the best of the wildlife Sri Lanka has to offer.
The tour is ideal for senior travellers, who would love going back in time and experiencing this slow pace tour looking for the colonial eras of Sri Lanka. This tour is best done from November to April with the option of few extended nights in Galle to experience the Mirissa Whale watching cruise. We also would recommend this tour from July to September if you’re looking for a summer break as the hill country of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya are very pleasant during this time of the year and offers you plenty of time for country walks.

Day 01:
Arrival at Colombo:
Our Company Representative will receive you on arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Check into the hotel and relax.
Overnight will be at Colombo.
Day 02:
Colombo – Kandy:
By Road in 3.5hr
Breakfast will be at the hotel.
Drive to Kandy. Reach and check into the hotel.
Kandy was the capital of the venerated 16th century Kandyan Kings, who fiercely and successfully defended their kingdom against Portuguese and Dutch invaders for 300 years.
Enjoy the city sightseeing including visit to Kandy National Museum and Temple of the Tooth.
Proceed to visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
Enjoy walk around Kandy’s central market. Stocking a range of foods, spices, herbal tonics, crafts, textiles and factory-reject designer-brand clothing, it caters mainly to the locals.
Overnight will be at Kandy.
Day 03:
Kandy – Nuwara Eliya:
By Road in 2.5hr
Breakfast will be at the hotel.
You will start the day in Kandy with a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Later – drive to Nuwara Eliya experiencing a scenic drive en route stop at Ramboda falls watch point.
Arrive in Nuwara Eliya – land of tea-laden hillsides, gurgling waterfalls, stirring mountains and clear hill-country air. Here, in temperatures akin to a beautiful English summer’s day, is wonderful walking country, a chance to experience Sri Lankan scenery at its finest.
Enjoy the sightseeing – Sri Lanka’s hill villages, tea processing factories, Botanical Gardens etc.
Overnight will be at Nuwara Eliya.
Day 04:
Nuwara Eliya – Excursion to Horton Plains (Optional):
By Road in 1hr
After breakfast – proceed for an excursion to Horton Plains.
Horton Plains National Park is situated in the Central Province of Sri Lanka of Nuwara Eliya District. It is positioned at the eastern boundaries of the Upper Montane Forest Range (1500m-2524m above sea level) of Central Highland of Sri Lanka.
The distance to Horton Plains from Nuwara Eliya is 32 km.
Later – return back and relax at the hotel.
Overnight will be at Nuwara Eliya.
Day 05:
Nuwara Eliya – Yala National Park:
By Road in 5hr
After breakfast – drive to Yala National Park via Ella.
Reach Ella and visit Little Adam’s Peak.
The glorious Nine Arch Bridge between Ella and Demodara train stations is one of the engineering marvels in the early 20th century.
Ravana Falls is another must visit in Ella. Hill country of Sri Lanka is quite popular for beautiful waterfalls and Ravana Falls is right at the top.
Proceed further to Yala National Park.
Yala National Park is a huge area of forest, grassland and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, in southeast Sri Lanka. It’s home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species.
Reach and check in to the hotel.
Evening at leisure. Overnight will be at Yala.
Day 06:
Yala National Park:
Enjoy morning and afternoon jeep safaris in the park.
Overnight will be at Yala.
Day 07:
Yala – Galle:
By Road in 3hr
Breakfast will be at the hotel.
Drive to Galle, located in the southwestern coast of the island. Reach and check into the hotel.
One of Sri Lanka’s finest colonial-era show pieces, this Dutch built town and the 17th century fort of Galle offer a fascinating glimpse into the colonial past of the island. Huge bastions and ramparts enclose the quaint town with its narrow streets, old villas and offer mesmerizing sunset views across the Indian Ocean.
Spend rest of the day in leisure or else explore surroundings of Galle.
Overnight will be at Galle.
Day 08:
Galle:
Breakfast will be at the hotel.
Visit the OLD GALLE FORT in Sri Lanka’s 04th biggest town.
Overnight will be at Galle.
Day 09:
Galle – Colombo:
By road in 3hr
Breakfast will be at the hotel.
Relax and spend morning in leisure or else explore surroundings of Galle.
Later proceed to Colombo (if interested you can visit Bentota beach enroute). Reach Colombo and enjoy last minute shopping.
Enjoy the New Year Celebrations and Gala Dinner at the hotel.
Overnight will be at Colombo.
Day 10:
Colombo – Back Home:
Morning – proceed for a half day city tour
Learn the word ‘Estuti’ – it means thank you in Sinhalese and can go a long way in pleasing the locals.
Visits to the Hindu temple with elaborate stone carvings, the Dutch Church at Wolfe dhal dating back to 1749, the historic Devatgahaha mosque and the Gangarama Temple give a good cultural feel about the country. While the city holds less obvious interest than many other parts of the island. It’s still a colorful enough place and worth a visit to see what makes Sri Lanka tick. The Cinnamon Gardens and Pettah are Colombo’s busiest and most traditional Bazaar area.
Later – we will transfer you to the airport to take flight back home with sweet memories of the Sri Lanka tour.
