Hampi – the extraordinary  squint to the history

Hampi – the extraordinary  squint to the history

The amazing and exclusive landscape of Hampi is best described as ethereal. The Captivating ruins looks fascinating with the landscape that’s brings out the best display of the large, rust-coloured boulders with a background of palm trees, green paddy fields and plantations. Over 500 monuments and ruins still stand here dated back to the 14th century, spanning over a distance of 25km. This is the largest Hindi empire known in the history of India, known as the last capital of the Vijayanagar Empire and is now a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You’ll find the ruins amongst two main areas: the Sacred Centre and the Royal Centre. Virupaksha is Hampi’s only remaining living temple. It us also one of the oldest structures which was built in 1442 and is situated on the picturesque, boulder-strewn Tungabhadra River. Highlight of the visit and one temple not to be missed is the Vittala Temple. Explore and experience this extravagant complex of pavilions, halls and temples, where you get to see the impressive stone chariot constructed in the 16th century. The sunset from Mantanga Hill is the site to die for and is an ideal spot to get an aerial view of the landscape showcasing the Hampi ruins.

There are many restaurants and budget accommodations near the main bazaar area. Across the river, the setting is a bit more peaceful. Just a short drive away from the attractions and ruins is the Evolve Back Resort that offers the most luxurious stay in the area. The palace-like structure is relaxing and offers the breath-taking views of the boulder-strewn landscape. We also have The Ultimate Travelling Camp in the area which is a comfortable yet luxurious tented camp accommodation and is not far from the town.

The fascinating and historical ruins of Hampi, is well connected with Hyderabad and Bangalore with direct flights available. One can also reach Hampi by road travelling from Bangalore which is a 6 hours drive.
